Salt which is also known as table salt or rock salt is used for taste enhancement and serves as an electrolyte that helps regulate fluid balance in the body.

The generic term salt is applied to any one of a class of similar compounds formed when the acid hydrogen of an acid is partly or wholly replaced by a metal or a metallic radical.
