Ball

Ball clay
Ball is described as a sphere; a round body of various sizes and materials, either hollow or solid. Two kinds are presented below: ceramic balls and plastic balls

1. Ceramic balls, like plastics and other non-metals, are available in a host of compositions and formulations. This data sheet covers many of the general properties shared by ceramic balls, and lists specific characteristics of different materials.

As a rule, ceramic balls resist corrosion and abrasion extremely well. They also have low thermal conductivity, and a high resistance to heat. Ruby sapphire material can withstand extended exposure to temperatures in excess of 3250?F. These qualities make ceramic balls useful for flow control, metering, and bearing applications.

2. Plastic balls, on the other hand, are ideal for light-load bearings and flow control applications. Because they are quiet, plastic balls are often selected for use in office furniture, bearings, medical products, and similar applications. They're also used exclusively in flow control applications in pharmaceutical, food processing, and chemical processing equipment.

Plastic balls have low friction and require virtually no lubrication. They are much lighter than metal balls, and resist corrosion and abrasion very well. Compared to metals having comparable corrosion resistance, plastics are generally less expensive. Many plastics are also extremely resistant to heat.
