Asbestos-cement is characterized as a fire-resisting weatherproof building material made from Portland cement and asbestos. It is manufactured in various forms such as plain sheets, corrugated sheets, shingles, pipes, etc.

Asbestos Cement - A hard product that contains up to 15% asbestos fibres which can be any of the three main types. This is a relatively safe material provided it remains intact as the cement binds the asbestos fibres; breakage will lead to fibre release. When used for roofing the risks to operatives are far greater from falls than asbestos exposure. This material does not have to be removed by licensed contractors but must be transported and disposed of as special waste from non-domestic premises.
