The term bioaerosol (short for biological aerosol ) refers to airborne particles that contain or were released from living organisms that are miniscule and may range from less than one to a hundred micrometers in size.

Bioaerosols can conver microbial pathogens, endotoxins and allergens. They are affected by air currents and gravity, and may move quickly or slowly depending on the environment.

Common sources of bioaerosols include soil, water and sewage. Dust storms and leaf blowers can multiply their concentration locally, and therefore lead to infections and allergic reactions.
