Aging has something to do with a change in the properties of certain metals and alloys that occurs at ambient or moderately elevated temperatures after a (1) hot-working operation or a heat-treatment - quench aging in ferrous alloys, natural or artificial aging in ferrous and nonferrous alloys; or (2) after a cold-working operation - strain aging. Due to a phase change or precipitation, the change in certain metal's or alloy's properties is often, but not always; but a change in the chemical composition of the metal or alloy is never involved.
