The term association may refer to any of the following:

    • Voluntary association (also voluntary group, voluntary organization, unincorporated association, common-interest association), a group of individuals who enter into an agreement as volunteers to form an organization in order to accomplish a specific purpose
    • 501(c) organization, a tax-exempt non-profit organization, as outlined in the United States Internal Revenue Code
    • Alumni association, an association of former students of a particular university, college, school, fraternity or sorority
    • Professional association (also professional body, professional organization, professional society), a non-profit organization seeking to further a particular profession, the interests of professionals in that field, and public interest

    • Trade association (also industry trade group, business association, sector association), an organization founded and funded by businesses that operate in a specific industry
    • Sports association (also sports club, athletics club, sports society), a club for the purpose of playing one or more sports
    • Association, in astronomy, a combined group of astronomical exposures from which cosmic rays have been removed
    • Association, in ecology, a type of community with a predictable species composition and consistent structural appearance which occurs in a particular type of habitat
    • Association, in object-oriented programming, defines a relationship between classes of objects that allows one instance to cause another to perform an action on its behalf

  • Association, in psychology, a connection between conceptual entities or mental states that results from the similarity or proximity in space and time of those states
  • Association, in statistics, any relationship between two measured quantities that renders them statistically dependent
  • Archeological association, a close relationship between objects or contexts
  • Genetic association, a non-random occurrence of two or more traits in a population of individuals, of which at least one is known to be genetic in nature
  • File association, the association of a file or class of files with a corresponding application or program capable of viewing or editing such files
  • Security association, the establishment of shared security attributes between two entities in a network to support secure communication
  • Free association (also free association of producers, community of freely associated individuals), a relationship among individuals where the concepts of state, social class, authority, and private property are non-existent in the context of means production
  • Continental Association, a system created by the First Continental Congress (of what would later become the United States) in 1774 for implementing a trade boycott with Great Britain
  • HMS Association, a ship of the British Royal Navy that sank in 1707
  • L'Association, a French comic book publishing house
