Hot cathode pertains to an ionization gauge in which pressure is measured ionization gauge in terms of the current of positive ions produced by electrons emitted form a heated cathode. Ionization is a process which results in the formation of ions. Such a process can occur by adding (or removing) one or more electrons to (or from) an atom (or molecule).
