Sea anchor pertains to a drogue designed to bring a boat to a near stop in heavy weather. Typically a sea anchor is set off of the bow of a boat so that the bow points into the wind and rough waves. Sea anchor does not hook the boat to the bottom, but rather provides drag against drift.

A drouge is refers to any object used to increase the drag of a boat. Typically shaped like a parachute or cone opened underwater, drogues slow a boat's motion in heavy weather.
