Frequency

Frequency is the number of occurrences of a repeating event per unit time. It is also referred to as temporal frequency, which emphasizes the contrast to spatial frequency and angular frequency. The period is the duration of one cycle in a repeating event, so the period is the reciprocal of the frequency.

In the industrial and industry context, frequency refers to the number of occurrences of a repeating event in a unit of time. It is often used to describe the rate at which a machine operates, the speed of a process, or the rate at which a signal is transmitted.

Examples of frequency in industrial and industry include:

  • The frequency of a motor's rotation per minute (RPM)
  • The frequency of an AC power supply, measured in Hertz (Hz)
  • The frequency of a production line, measured in parts per minute
  • The frequency of a vibration or sound, measured in Hz or kilohertz (kHz)
