Ice box is formerly a term used to designate a sound-proof glass enclosure for a camera. The "ice box" prevented unwanted camera noise from being recorded by the audio microphone of the camera. Ice box is now a nickname for the motion-control system developed by Douglas Trumbull for his special effects work on "Close Encounters of the Third Kind."
