Television, or TV for short, (from French téièvision, meaning "television") is a telecommunication medium for transmitting and receiving moving images that can be monochrome (black-and-white) or colored, with or without accompanying sound. "Television" may also refer specifically to a television set, television program, or television transmission.

In the industrial or industry context, "television" can refer to both the technology and the industry that produces and distributes television content. The television industry is involved in a variety of activities, including:

  • Broadcasting: the transmission of television signals to viewers via airwaves, cable, or satellite
  • Content Creation: the production of television shows, movies, news programs, and other content
  • Distribution: the sale or licensing of television content to broadcast networks, cable companies, and streaming services
  • Advertising: the sale of advertising time or space on television to support the cost of producing and distributing content
  • Equipment Manufacturing: the production of televisions, set-top boxes, and other hardware used to receive and display television signals.

Examples of companies involved in the television industry include television networks (such as NBC, ABC, and CBS), cable companies (such as Comcast and Charter), and streaming services (such as Netflix and Amazon Prime Video).
