Zinc chloride is defined as a carbon zinc battery with a slightly acidic electrolyte consisting mainly of zinc chloride in water.

It is described as white; hexagonal; and poisonous. It is used in galvanizing iron, as a catalyst, a dehydrating agent, a condensing agent, as a wood preservative, as ingredient in soldering fluxes, in burnishing and polishing compounds for steel, electroplating, in glass -etching compositions, in petroleum refining, and in pigments.
